We don’t use tracking, analytics or advertising cookies, and we don’t load anything from other companies when you view a page — our fonts and files are all served from this site. The only cookie we set is a session cookie for the site owner’s admin area (it’s only sent on admin pages, and only when someone signs in).

The running-cost calculator

The calculator works out its answer in your browser as you type, or on our server if you press the button with JavaScript switched off. We don’t store your figures in a database. Because the form puts your figures in the page address (so you can share or bookmark them), they will appear in your browser history and may appear in our web server’s standard access logs (see below). They aren’t linked to your name.

The buying checklist

When you tick an item on the buying checklist, the tick is saved in your own browser (using “local storage”) so it’s still there next time. It is never sent to us. Use “Clear my ticks” on the page, or clear your browser’s site data, to remove it.

Server logs

Like most websites, our hosting keeps standard web server logs — such as the page requested, the time, your IP address and browser type — for security and to fix problems.

Links to other websites

Links to other websites go through a short redirect on this site (/go/…). When you follow one we count the click — the date, which link and which of our pages it was on — but nothing that identifies you. Once you arrive on another website (for example a park operator, an advice service or Amazon.co.uk), that site’s own privacy policy applies. Amazon may use cookies to record that you came from us so that any qualifying purchase can be credited to us.
